Groundwork responds to parks economic research

Groundwork has responded to today's launch of Fields in Trust research outlining the economic value of the UK's parks and green spaces.

Graham Duxbury, Groundwork's national Chief Executive, said:

“This is a really valuable addition to the wealth of research that’s been done to evidence the value parks and green spaces bring to our wellbeing. Investment in green spaces is reducing disproportionately compared to other areas of spending, especially in more disadvantaged areas where the benefits they bring are needed even more. Partly this is because it’s been harder to quantify what will be lost if green spaces are not well-maintained or sold. We know from over 35 years experience of supporting communities that – at their best - parks and green spaces can inspire pride, bring diverse communities together and provide a springboard to help people live more healthily and sustainably. But once the rot sets in they can drag down a whole neighbourhood. This new research can help us all build a better business case for keeping our communities green and healthy.”
